Medical Acupuncture and Dry Needling is a pain management programme through the use of sterile filiform needles. The outcome of this technique helps pain relief, decrease tightness and movement improvements.

Dry needling involves the placement of a needle into a tender point (aka trigger point), thereafter helping down regulate local tissue irritability through a neurophysiological signal to affected body part (usually intramuscularly and pain pathways).

Acupuncture on the other hand, involves the insertion of needles into meridian points (i.e. paths where life energy (aka "qi") flows). Its treatment concept is based upon Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), balancing and restoring proper flow of energy throughout the body.

Both can be alternative pain relief therapy for people who are short for time & effects can be felt almost immediately – tensed muscles are typically relieved within 10-15 minutes (as compared to a traditional 1 hr massage)

All the needles used are completely sterile and disposable. The number of needles required is dependent upon the size of tender points in area affected, depth of softening and bodily responses. The needles are left on for a couple of minutes before removing.

Physio Jonathan uses a combination of both dry needling & acupuncture for the management of musculoskeletal pain disorders. He uses this as an adjunct pain management programme where appropriate to help patients chase active recovery early.
